MOUNT MORRIS — Sheriff Thomas J. Dougherty reports the arrest of a Yates County resident on felony charges following an investigation by the Sheriff’s Office.

The investigation began after the Sheriff’s Office was contacted by the Livingston County Department of Social Services regarding possible welfare fraud.

Sheriff’s Investigators conducted an inquiry into the allegations.

Authorities allege that 50-year-old Kerryann Lanning of Dundee failed to report a change in the status of her employment and household income.

As a result, Lanning collected an overpayment in SNAP Benefits that she was not entitled to from June 2023 through January 2024.

On March 26, Investigator Connor Sanford arrested and charged Lanning with felony Welfare Fraud in the Fourth Degree, felony Grand Larceny in the Fourth Degree and Offering a False Instrument for Filing in the First Degree.

Lanning was transported to the Livingston County Jail, where she was turned over to Central Booking Deputies for processing and released with an appearance ticket.

She is scheduled to appear at the Town of Mount Morris Court at a later date.
