WEST SPRINGFIELD — Two New Hampshire women were arrested after allegedly stealing more than $2,200 worth of merchandise from Dick’s Sporting Goods, police said.
Sara Ann Frazier and Amanda Lyn Amer, both of Washington Street in Keene, were charged with larceny over $1,200, possession of burglarious tools, and unlawful removal of a theft detection device.
Officers responded to the store at approximately 7 p.m. on March 25 after reports of two shoplifters who had filled a black trash bag with merchandise and fled toward Riverdale Street.
An undercover detective working in the area observed the suspects as they fled with the overflowing bag and stopped them behind an adjacent business, where patrol officers and store loss prevention personnel provided assistance.
After initially providing false information to officers, the suspects were positively identified.
The bag contained $1,871.98 worth of stolen items, as well as cut and clipped security cables, ink pods, and a wire cutting device.
Frazier was also found wearing three stolen clothing items under her jeans, totaling an additional $375, bringing the total value of stolen merchandise to $2,246.98.
Both suspects were taken into custody without further incident.
