Driver suffers medical incident, crashes into utility pole in Freetown

FREETOWN — A driver was injured Tuesday after suffering a medical incident that caused their vehicle to crash into a utility pole in Cortland County.

Officers from the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene at approximately 12:35 p.m. near the intersection of McGraw-Marathon Road and Sperry Road in the Town of Freetown.

According to officials, the driver experienced a medical incident that caused them to veer off the roadway.

The vehicle struck a utility pole before coming to rest in a nearby field.

The driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was transported by ambulance to Guthrie Cortland Medical Center for treatment.

The Marathon Fire Department, MAVAC, CNY Towing and NYSEG assisted the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office at the scene.
