SWANTON — A series of crashes involving four vehicles occurred on Woods Hill Road near Bushey Road at 6:19 a.m. on March 26, resulting in vehicle damage but no injuries.

Vermont State Police and Swanton Fire Department responded to what was initially reported as a two-vehicle crash, with a secondary collision occurring before authorities arrived on scene.

According to police, Emily Fitzsimmons, 20, of Swanton was driving a 2016 Subaru Impreza eastbound on Woods Hill Road when she lost control on the icy, slick roadway.

Jacob Barnes, 20, of Montgomery, who was traveling westbound in a 2020 GMC Sierra, saw Fitzsimmons’ vehicle in his lane and swerved into the eastbound lane to avoid a head-on collision.

Despite evasive action, the vehicles collided, with Fitzsimmons’ Subaru sustaining front-end and passenger side damage while Barnes’ Sierra suffered damage to the passenger side front and rear doors and right rear wheel.

Fitzsimmons’ vehicle came to rest off the westbound shoulder while Barnes’ truck stopped on the eastbound shoulder.

Kellen Pilon, 18, of Bakersfield, driving a 2015 Ford F-250, stopped in the westbound lane to check on Fitzsimmons.

While Pilon’s vehicle was stopped, Ean Grimes, 38, of Enosburg, driving a 2019 Nissan Versa, rear-ended the F-250, causing minor front-end damage to Pilon’s truck and rear-end damage to Grimes’ vehicle.

All drivers were wearing seatbelts, and no injuries were reported from either collision.

Police cited icy road conditions as a contributing factor in the initial crash.

All vehicles were towed from the scene.
