SPRINGFIELD — Two juveniles were arrested Tuesday in connection with a shooting outside Union Station that left two people injured, police said.
A Springfield police officer working a detail at 55 Frank B. Murray Street heard gunshots around 3:45 p.m. and officers received a ShotSpotter activation for that location.
Officers found two gunshot victims, an adult male and adult female, who were transported to Baystate Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
Members of the Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit observed three possible suspects on Bridge Street and began tracking them using cameras in the area.
Police detained a 17-year-old female on Elliot Street while two males attempted to flee.
An 18-year-old male was detained on State Street but was later released without being booked.
A 16-year-old male was taken into custody on State Street after he attempted to run away in handcuffs, striking a detective in the face before being secured in a cruiser.
Officers recovered an illegal firearm inside the juvenile female’s purse, leading to her arrest.
The 16-year-old male, who has a prior firearms conviction, was taken to a hospital where he charged at and struck another officer.
Police found 60 bags of heroin and two bags of crack-cocaine in a shoulder bag the juvenile male was wearing.
Investigators believe the victims and at least one suspect knew each other.
