Rifles found near railroad bed in Belchertown

BELCHERTOWN — Police recovered two unloaded .22 caliber rifles Tuesday morning after a resident reported seeing a suspicious person placing weapons near a railroad bed.

At approximately 8:46 a.m., a caller contacted the Wilbraham Regional Communication Center to report a young white male with brown hair, wearing a tan sweatshirt and dark shorts, placing two rifles behind 221 North Liberty Street.

Belchertown Police responded to the area and recovered the weapons.

An extensive search was conducted using the Belchertown Police Drone Unit and the Massachusetts State Police K-9 Unit.

The individual who placed the rifles was not located or identified.

Police are asking anyone who may have seen someone matching this description or who has information about this person to contact the Belchertown Police Department at 413-323-6685 or 413-596-9771.
