NEWBURGH — City of Newburgh Detectives arrested Qaadir J. Smith, a 34-year-old Newburgh resident, on March 20 in connection with a homicide that occurred on June 8, 2024, in the area of 7 Monument Street.
The victim, a 25-year-old Newburgh resident, died from a gunshot wound during the incident.
A second victim sustained a non-life-threatening injury in the same incident.
Smith has been charged with Murder in the 2nd degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd degree.
The arrest follows an intensive investigation by the City of Newburgh Detective Division, with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service, the Orange County District Attorney’s office, and the Hudson Valley Crime Analysis Center.
Smith is being held pending arraignment in City Court.
