GUILFORD — A 31-year-old Guilford man was arrested Tuesday after allegedly assaulting a family member and violating his conditions of release.

Vermont State Police responded to a report of a domestic dispute on Guilford Center Road at approximately 6:45 p.m.

Troopers from the Westminster Barracks arrived on scene and determined that James M. Smith had assaulted a household member and caused them to fear for their safety.

The investigation revealed that Smith’s actions violated his active conditions of release that prohibited him from engaging in criminal behavior.

Smith was arrested and transported to the Westminster Barracks for processing.

He was later released with a criminal citation and new conditions of release.

Smith is scheduled to appear in Vermont Superior Court, Windham Unit, Criminal Division, on March 25 at 12:30 p.m. to answer charges of domestic assault and violation of conditions of release.
