ELMIRA — A 24-year-old Elmira woman was arrested Tuesday on multiple felony charges related to welfare fraud, according to police.
Aiyana J. Hazlett was charged with welfare fraud and grand larceny, both class D felonies, following an investigation by the Chemung County Department of Social Services Special Investigations Unit and the Elmira Police Department.
Investigators determined Hazlett filed fraudulent paperwork for public assistance with the Chemung County Department of Social Services.
Authorities say she received $9,621 in SNAP benefits that she was not eligible to receive.
Hazlett faces one count of third-degree welfare fraud, one count of third-degree grand larceny, and four counts of offering a false instrument for filing, which are class E felonies.
