SOUTHBRIDGE — A 20-year-old Worcester man was arrested Friday on multiple firearm charges and assault with intent to murder, according to the Southbridge Police Department.
Janiell Castro was apprehended at an apartment on West Street at approximately 4:30 p.m. when members of the Southbridge Police Detective Division assisted the Department of Homeland Security and Worcester Police Department Gang Unit & Firearms Unit in executing an arrest warrant.
Authorities recovered a firearm, a 30-round magazine, and numerous live rounds of ammunition during the arrest.
Castro, of 44 Plantation Street apt#2 in Worcester, was believed to be armed and dangerous and evading capture from law enforcement, police said.
He was secured in handcuffs and arrested without incident before being transported to Worcester Police Headquarters for processing.
In addition to the felony warrant charges from Worcester Police Department, Castro faces charges from Southbridge Police for possession of a loaded firearm without a license to carry (subsequent offense), possession of a firearm with two prior violent/drug crimes, unlawful possession of ammunition (subsequent offense), improper storage of a large capacity firearm, and possession of a large capacity feeding device.
