RUTLAND — A North Clarendon man was arrested for driving under the influence and criminal driving with a suspended license after being stopped for speeding on U.S. Route 4 in Rutland Town.
Vermont State Police were conducting stationary speed enforcement on March 23 at approximately 6:24 p.m. when they observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed.
Troopers confirmed the vehicle was traveling 90 mph in a posted 65 mph zone.
After conducting a traffic stop, police identified the driver as Billy J. Covell, 54, of North Clarendon.
While speaking with Covell, troopers observed indicators of alcohol impairment.
Covell was screened for DUI and subsequently arrested.
Police also determined Covell was driving with a criminally suspended license.
Covell was transported to the Rutland Barracks for processing and released with a citation to appear at Vermont Superior Court, Rutland Criminal Division.
This is Covell’s second DUI offense, according to police.
