LEBANON — Lebanon Police officers arrested a man who allegedly attacked two people with a hammer at the Lebanon Emergency Winter Shelter on March 23.

Officers responded to a report of an altercation at 160 Mechanic Street at approximately 4:32 p.m., where they found a crowd gathered in front of the shelter.

Police were informed that a physical altercation had occurred between three males, with one reportedly armed with a hammer who had struck at least one person.

Officers located two of the involved individuals behind the building, where one male was holding the hammer.

An officer drew their service weapon and commanded the individual to drop the hammer, successfully taking the subject into custody without further incident.

The suspect, identified as Shawn Mooney, 37, from Canaan, allegedly struck one male victim in the head with a hammer during the incident.

A second victim sustained facial injuries after Mooney reportedly attempted to gouge out the man’s eyes during the confrontation.

The victims were treated on-site by emergency medical personnel, with one transported to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center for further care.

Mooney was out on bail from a March 11 arrest, where he was charged with Failing to Register As a Sex Offender and Resisting Arrest.

He now faces multiple charges including two counts of Second Degree Assault and one count of Felon in Possession of Dangerous Weapon, both Class B Felonies, as well as two counts of Simple Assault and one Breach of Bail, also Class B Felonies.

Additional charges include Disorderly Conduct and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Mooney was transported to the Grafton County House of Corrections pending his arraignment at 2nd Circuit Lebanon District Court on March 24.
