CORTLAND — The Cortland County Sheriff’s Office is investigating multiple scam phone calls targeting local residents.
Officials warn that scammers are impersonating law enforcement officers and demanding payments for warrant cancellations, bail, bond, or fines.
The Sheriff’s Office emphasized that no legitimate law enforcement agency will ever request payment via gift cards or other electronic means.
Residents who receive suspicious calls from individuals claiming to be law enforcement officials should contact the Sheriff’s Office at (607)753-3311 before providing any payment information.
Authorities urge residents to speak with an actual officer to verify any payment requests that seem unusual.
