AFTON — A 23-year-old Afton resident was arrested March 24 after allegedly stealing multiple firearms and violating an order of protection, according to the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office.
Michael P. McWeeney faces multiple charges including burglary, grand larceny, criminal contempt and criminal possession of a weapon.
Detectives from the sheriff’s office made the arrest following a report of stolen firearms.
Investigators allege McWeeney unlawfully entered a structure belonging to the victim where he stole several firearms, violating an existing order of protection in the process.
All firearms were recovered by the Sheriff’s Office.
McWeeney was taken into custody without incident and arraigned in Centralized Arraignment.
He was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional facility on cash bail.
