WASHINGTONVILLE — Retired NYPD and current Washingtonville Police Officer Jose Santiago died in a vehicle collision while off-duty in Sullivan County Sunday night, according to a statement released by Police Chief Brian Zaccaro.
Santiago’s wife was seriously injured in the accident and remains hospitalized.
“Officer Santiago was a dedicated and respected member of our department, serving with honor, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to his community,” Zaccaro said in the statement issued Monday.
The police department will provide information about memorial services once arrangements have been made.
