BOSTON — Officers from the Boston Police Department arrested a Randolph man on drug trafficking charges after recovering approximately 115 grams of cocaine during a traffic stop in Roxbury.
At about 9 p.m., on Friday, March 21, officers assigned to District B-2 (Roxbury) were patrolling near Blue Hill Avenue and Quincy Street when they observed a vehicle blocking a crosswalk.
After initiating a traffic stop with emergency lights and sirens, officers approached the vehicle and explained the reason for the stop to the driver, identified as Roberto Lima, 39, of Randolph.
When officers requested Lima turn off the vehicle, he allegedly attempted to flee by reaching for the gear shifter.
Officers quickly disabled the vehicle and attempted to remove Lima, who reportedly resisted by pulling away from them.
After securing Lima in handcuffs, officers recovered a large plastic bag of cocaine from inside the vehicle.
A search incident to the arrest yielded a glass mason jar containing three additional medium-sized plastic bags of cocaine, with the total amount later determined to be approximately 115 grams.
Lima was charged with trafficking 100 grams or more but less than 200 grams of a Class B substance, resisting arrest, and failing to stop for police.
He is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
