BOSTON — A man featured on the Boston Police Department’s Most Wanted List was arrested early Saturday after officers caught him breaking into a vehicle in Dorchester, authorities said.

Donnell Butler, 36, of Boston, was apprehended around 2:01 a.m. on March 15 when officers responded to a report of a vehicle break-in at 12 Arcadia Street.

Officers observed Butler closing the driver’s side door of the victim’s vehicle, police said.

When Butler noticed the officers, he dropped his backpack and attempted to flee by jumping over a fence.

Officers quickly stopped Butler, but a struggle ensued when he refused commands to stop resisting, according to police.

Additional officers arrived at the scene and helped secure Butler in handcuffs.

During a search following the arrest, officers recovered an electric stun gun, two screwdrivers, an electric screwdriver, a socket wrench, and a socket set described as “consistent with burglarious tools.”

Officers also found a switchblade knife in Butler’s waistband.

Butler was wanted on five outstanding warrants that included charges of breaking and entering, larceny from a building, receiving stolen property, and attempt to commit a crime.

He now faces additional charges of breaking and entering in the nighttime for a felony, possession of an electric stun gun, possession of burglarious tools, and resisting arrest.

Butler is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester Court.
