BOSTON — A 47-year-old Boston man was arrested on multiple firearm charges Saturday after allegedly threatening security personnel at South Bay Mall.
Officers from the Boston Police Department’s District C-6 responded to 7 Allstate Road at about 2:30 p.m. following reports of a person using drugs inside a Target bathroom.
While at the scene, a detective was informed by South Bay Mall Security that a male had displayed a firearm, pointing it at their feet, before heading toward Famous Footwear.
Security personnel provided a description of the suspect, who was reportedly behind Home Depot.
Officers located the suspect, identified as Alejandro Ortiz, and ordered him to stop, but police say he resisted and attempted to flee.
A struggle ensued during which Ortiz allegedly reached toward his waistband despite multiple commands from officers.
After subduing and handcuffing Ortiz, officers recovered a KAHR Arms firearm from his waistband with one round in the chamber and five rounds in the magazine.
Police noted the firearm’s serial number had been defaced.
Ortiz faces multiple charges including unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of a loaded firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, possession of a firearm in commission of a felony, defacement of a firearm serial number, assault with a dangerous weapon, and possession of Class C substances.
He is expected to be arraigned in South Boston District Court.
