UTICA — Police arrested a 42-year-old man who allegedly threatened multiple people with a meat cleaver and attempted to break into a residence on Schuyler Street.
Officers responded to the 900 block of Schuyler Street at approximately 6:45 p.m. on March 20 following reports of menacing.
Victims at the scene told police that Somxay Sysamouth, whom they knew, became violent while they were outside a residence.
According to police, Sysamouth left briefly before returning with what was later identified as a meat cleaver-style knife and approached the victims in a threatening manner.
The victims fled into their residence and locked the door, but Sysamouth allegedly attempted to break in by smashing glass windows on the door and front windows.
Police said Sysamouth then entered a separate nearby residence.
Officers made contact with Sysamouth, who eventually exited the residence and was taken into custody without incident.
Authorities recovered the meat cleaver and transported Sysamouth to the Utica Police Department.
Sysamouth faces multiple charges including two counts of second-degree menacing, fourth-degree criminal mischief, and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
