NORFOLK — State Police arrested two individuals on drug charges Tuesday evening after a traffic stop escalated when one suspect falsely reported the trooper as an impostor.
Robert J. Donnelly, 42, of Massena, NY, and Nyrah H. Jefferson-Logan, 33, of Fort Covington, NY, were both charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the 7th degree following the 7:25 p.m. incident on State Highway 56.
Jefferson-Logan faces an additional charge of falsely reporting a catastrophe or emergency to an official agency in the 3rd degree after calling 911 to report that a fake officer had pulled her over.
Troopers initially stopped the gray 2004 Ford F-250 traveling north after discovering the vehicle’s registration was suspended.
During the traffic stop, Jefferson-Logan accused the trooper of being an impostor and called 911 despite the officer’s attempts to confirm his identity.
A St. Lawrence County Deputy responded to the scene with a K9 unit, which alerted to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle.
A subsequent search revealed narcotics and drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle.
Both suspects were transported to SP Massena for processing and later released on appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Norfolk Court for a date in April.
