RENSSELAER — A middle school technology teacher was arrested Friday for allegedly possessing an illegal firearm during a domestic incident that occurred in December, according to Rensselaer police.
Akili-Abdul Duncan, 53, of Albany, was charged with criminal possession of a firearm, a Class E felony, and criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree, a Class A misdemeanor.
Police said Duncan possessed a .380 caliber pistol during a domestic-related incident in Rensselaer without having the required New York State pistol permit.
Duncan, who teaches at Farnsworth Middle School in Guilderland, was arraigned in Rensselaer City Court by Judge Dukes and remanded to the Rensselaer County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail, $50,000 insurance company bail bond, or $50,000 partially secured surety bond.
The arrest on March 21 came one day after Duncan was arrested by Guilderland Police Department on similar but unrelated charges, authorities said.
Authorities are asking anyone with information related to the incident to contact Rensselaer detectives at 518-462-7451.
