NEWBURGH — Police arrested a 26-year-old man in connection with a shooting that injured another man on Liberty Street earlier this month.
Leshawn X. Hamilton, a Newburgh resident, was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon for the March 6 shooting incident, according to the City of Newburgh Police Department.
The shooting occurred around 7:52 p.m. when police received a Shotspotter notification near 307 Liberty Street.
Shortly after the alert, a 33-year-old male victim arrived at Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital with a gunshot wound, police said.
The victim survived his injuries.
Hamilton was arrested on March 15 following an investigation by the City of Newburgh Detective Division and the Non-Fatal Shooting Task Force.
The task force is a collaborative effort between the City of Newburgh Detective Division, Orange County District Attorney’s Office Investigators, and the Hudson Valley Crime Analysis Center.
