HERKIMER — A 24-year-old man faces multiple weapons charges after police executed a search warrant and recovered a sawed-off shotgun from a residence on East Steele Street, authorities said Thursday.

Ibn Radee Browning was arrested on March 19 at 3:15 p.m. following a brief foot pursuit on Protection Avenue, according to the Herkimer Police Department.

Officers had been attempting to serve Browning with an Extreme Risk Protection Order since March 3, when police received a report that he had threatened to shoot someone during an argument.

Police said they made multiple unsuccessful attempts to locate Browning before finding him at 218 E. Steele Street on March 18.

According to authorities, Browning and 23-year-old Ian Everson refused to allow officers entry to the residence, with Everson allegedly threatening officers while armed with a baseball bat.

Officers opted not to enter the residence at that time due to safety concerns and information that Browning possessed a shotgun, police said.

After apprehending Browning the following day, officers found him in possession of methamphetamine with intent to sell, according to police reports.

Browning was initially charged with three bench warrants for failure to appear, bail jumping, resisting arrest, and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree.

He was arraigned and remanded to the Herkimer County Correctional Facility in lieu of $2,500 cash bail or $5,000 bond.

On March 20, officers executed a search warrant at the East Steele Street residence and recovered the shotgun, which police said had a defaced serial number and a barrel under 18 inches.

Browning now faces additional charges including criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, criminal possession of a firearm, criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree as a convicted felon, and criminal contempt in the second degree for disobeying a court order.

Everson was charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, obstruction of governmental administration, menacing in the second degree, and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree.

He was arraigned and released to appear in Village court at a later date.
