Fenton man faces felony drug charges after meth, synthetic cannabis seized

FENTON — A Town of Fenton man is facing multiple felony drug charges after authorities seized methamphetamine and synthetic cannabinoids during a search warrant execution Thursday.

Fred W. Montgomery, 53, was arrested after members of the Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force searched his residence at 450 Route 369 Lot 35 on March 20.

Investigators recovered approximately 68.5 grams of methamphetamine and 381 grams of synthetic cannabinoid during the search.

Authorities also seized digital scales, packaging materials and $2,508 in U.S. currency from the residence.

Montgomery was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the second degree, a Class A-II felony.

He also faces two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, Class B felonies, and two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fifth degree, Class D felonies.

Additional charges include two counts of criminally using drug paraphernalia in the second degree, a Class A misdemeanor.

Montgomery was arraigned and remains in custody at the Broome County Sheriff’s Correctional Facility.

The Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force includes members from the Broome County Sheriff’s Office, Binghamton Police Department, Johnson City Police Department and Endicott Police Department.

The task force received assistance from the Broome County Sheriff’s Office Highway Patrol Division during the operation.
