GREECE — A Rochester man was arrested Thursday after police used a drone with thermal imaging to track him following two home burglaries on Chippendale Road.
Jaiquan Johnson Goins, 25, was charged with second-degree burglary, petit larceny and fourth-degree criminal mischief in connection with the incidents that occurred around 3:13 a.m. on March 20.
Greece Police officers responded to a 911 call reporting a burglary in progress at a residence on Chippendale Road, where they discovered forced entry had been made.
The suspect confronted the homeowner, demanded her vehicle keys, and fled with stolen items.
Officers established a perimeter and requested assistance from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit while also deploying a police drone equipped with thermal imaging.
The drone operator observed an individual checking vehicle door handles further down Chippendale Road and guided officers to the suspect’s location despite his attempts to evade detection.
Police later determined Goins was responsible for a second burglary at another Chippendale Road home that same morning.
CID detectives executed a search warrant at Goins’ residence, recovering evidence related to both burglaries and other crimes.
Goins was arraigned in Greece Town Court and remanded to the Monroe County Jail on $25,000 cash bail.
Authorities noted Goins is currently on parole for a previous burglary conviction, and notification has been made to NYS Parole to initiate violation proceedings.
Police expect to file additional charges against Goins related to several vehicle larcenies and an attempted burglary reported in the same neighborhood.
