AUBURN — Investigators from the Finger Lakes Drug Task Force executed a search warrant at a Chapman Avenue residence on March 20, resulting in the arrest of a 51-year-old Auburn man on felony drug charges.

Michael E. Stanton Sr. was charged with one count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 3rd Degree, a class B felony, after investigators allegedly found cocaine, U.S. currency, a digital weighing scale and other drug paraphernalia at his home.

The search warrant was issued by Cayuga County Court following an investigation into the illegal possession, sales and distribution of narcotics in Cayuga County.

Despite having two previous felony convictions and a request from the Cayuga County District Attorney’s Office that he be remanded to custody, Stanton was released on his own recognizance due to bail reform policies.

Stanton is scheduled to appear in Cayuga County Court at a later date.

The Finger Lakes Drug Task Force consists of members from the New York State Police, Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office and Auburn Police Department.
