BREWSTER — Two retail clerks were arrested Tuesday following an Underage Drinking Initiative conducted by New York State Police across Putnam County.

The operation, which took place on March 18, targeted 16 retail locations to ensure compliance with the New York State Alcohol and Beverage Control Law.

Alvin B. Bonilla of Mobil Gas Station on Carmel Avenue in Brewster and Catherine A. Butts of Mobil Gas Station on Route 22 in Patterson were charged with unlawfully selling alcohol to an underage individual.

Fourteen other establishments properly refused to sell alcohol to the underage operative during the initiative.

The compliant businesses included gas stations, grocery stores, and liquor stores throughout Carmel, Patterson, and Brewster.

State Police commended the businesses that followed proper protocol, noting that such compliance checks are critical in reducing underage drinking and enhancing public safety.

Authorities said they will continue conducting similar operations to ensure adherence to state liquor laws.
