Salem man killed in crash on Interstate 293 in Manchester

MANCHESTER — A 72-year-old Salem man died following a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 293 in Manchester Thursday morning.

State Troopers from the Troop B barracks responded to the crash at mile marker 2.4 on I-293 northbound at 8:20 a.m. March 20.

Preliminary investigation revealed that John Vangelder of Salem, who was driving a red Ford F-150 pickup truck, was ejected from his vehicle and suffered fatal injuries.

The driver of the second vehicle, a black Cadillac SRX, was identified as James Drago, 48, of Amherst.

Drago was uninjured and remained at the scene to cooperate with investigators.

Multiple northbound lanes were closed during the investigation and reopened at 11:15 a.m.

Manchester Fire Department and the New Hampshire Department of Transportation assisted troopers at the scene.

The circumstances of the crash remain under investigation.
