GROTON — The Groton Police Department has announced traffic alerts and road closures for Saturday, March 22, between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m. in the Mystic area due to the Annual Mystic Irish 5K Road Race.

The event is sponsored by the Town of Groton Parks and Recreation Department and is held in conjunction with the “Mystic Irish Parade” scheduled for March 23.

Pearl Street, which serves as both the start and finish line for the race, will be closed between Clift Street and West Main Street from 8 a.m. until the end of the race.

Clift Street, Grove Avenue, Starr Street, and Gravel Street will experience road closures and traffic back-ups just before the race begins at 10 a.m.

These closures are expected to last only a minimal amount of time, according to police.

Access to River Road from Bindloss Road and Route 27 will only be closed just before the start time of the race and will reopen as soon as safety permits.
