Marcellus crews swiftly extinguish outdoor fire

MARCELLUS — At 3:43 a.m., the Marcellus Fire Department was dispatched to a reported outdoor fire in the 2500 block of Howlett Hill Road near Lyons Road Extension.

Marcellus Squad 2, led by Capt. Mathieson, Engine 1 with Lt. Angotti, Car 1 with Chief Rothery, and Car 2 with Assistant Chief Mayers responded to the scene.

Upon arrival, Car 2 confirmed the presence of an outdoor fire and reported a tree limb on power lines dropping sparks.

The fire spread rapidly due to dry vegetation and high winds.

Squad 2’s crew deployed two attack lines to extinguish the fire.

Engine 1’s crew assisted by providing additional water to Squad 2.

The team quickly extinguished the fire in under 15 minutes.

The power company was requested to remove the tree limb from the power lines.

Marcellus units stayed on the scene until the power was secured in the area.
