WESTMINSTER — Vermont State Police arrested a Brattleboro man on charges of lewd and lascivious conduct following an investigation into allegations of inappropriate sexual behavior.
James Smith, 40, was taken into custody in September after detectives with the Vermont State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation looked into reports of sexual misconduct.
The investigation began earlier in September when authorities were alerted to allegations against Smith.
Following his arrest, Smith was held at the Southern State Correctional Facility on $1,000 bail.
Smith is scheduled to appear in Vermont Superior Court, Windham Criminal Division on March 20 at 12:30 p.m.
The identity of the victim has not been released, in accordance with Vermont State Police policy regarding victims of sexual assault and domestic violence.
