SPRINGFIELD — Six people were arrested after Springfield police seized three illegal firearms at Blunt Park on Saturday.
Officers responded to the park on Roosevelt Avenue around 4:15 p.m. following reports of individuals flashing firearms and allegedly chasing someone with a gun.
When officers frisked John Taylor-Walters, 18, they found a large-capacity firearm magazine loaded with 27 rounds of ammunition.
A 17-year-old male was found with a firearm that had a defaced serial number.
Officers approached Tajour Hollins, 21, who dropped a firearm and fled before being apprehended after a short foot pursuit.
The recovered weapon had a Glock Switch attached, making it fully automatic or capable of firing as a machine gun, and was loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition.
A third illegal firearm, loaded and capable of holding 30 rounds of ammunition, was found in a backpack, leading to the arrest of Quinton Lockett-Simmonds, 24.
Najae Nichols, 23, was arrested for possession of a fake driver’s license, while Tyrease Arzola, 26, was charged with allegedly tampering with potential evidence during the investigation.
Hollins faces multiple charges including carrying a firearm without a license, possession of a machine gun, and being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.
Lockett-Simmonds is charged with carrying a firearm without a license, being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, and receiving a firearm with a defaced serial number, among other charges.
The juvenile’s name and charges were not released due to his age.
