SOUTHBRIDGE — Officers arrested a 29-year-old man Tuesday in connection with a shooting incident that occurred last week on Worcester Street, according to police.

Jose R. Paredes of 409 Worcester Street was taken into custody at approximately 9:28 a.m. on March 18 following a police investigation into shots fired from a vehicle.

The incident began on Thursday, March 13, at approximately 10:12 p.m. when officers responded to the 100 block of Worcester Street after receiving reports of gunfire.

Witnesses told police they observed a group of people arguing in the street before a male subject retrieved a gun from a vehicle and fired it toward an apartment building.

The suspect then fled the scene in the vehicle, according to police.

Officers issued a Be On The Look Out (BOLO) alert to area departments, and North Brookfield Police Department later located the vehicle parked in front of a residence.

North Brookfield officers observed a firearm on the passenger’s seat, and the vehicle was towed to the Southbridge Police Department where detectives obtained a search warrant.

During the search, police recovered a Glock handgun, two loaded magazines and 25 rounds of ammunition.

Paredes was charged with discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, possession of a firearm without a License to Carry, possession of a loaded firearm without a License to Carry, and unlawful possession of ammunition.

After processing, Paredes was transported to Dudley District Court for arraignment.
