MOUNT MORRIS — A 56-year-old Mount Morris resident faces felony charges after allegedly failing to report her household income accurately, resulting in an overpayment of nearly $6,000 in SNAP benefits, according to the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office.

Renee MacDonald was arrested Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. following an investigation that began when the Department of Social Services contacted the Sheriff’s Office about possible welfare fraud.

Investigators allege MacDonald collected $5,922 in SNAP benefits she wasn’t entitled to receive between October 2021 and September 2022.

Sheriff’s Investigator Ross Gerace charged MacDonald with felony welfare fraud in the third degree, felony grand larceny in the third degree, and three counts of offering a false instrument for filing in the first degree.

MacDonald was processed at the Livingston County Jail and later arraigned at the Livingston County Centralized Arraignment Part.

Town of Mount Morris Justice Ossont released MacDonald on her own recognizance, as the charges do not qualify for bail under the New York State Bail Reform Act.

The Livingston County Public Defender’s Office represented MacDonald at the arraignment, while the District Attorney’s Office represented the people.
