ESSEX JUNCTION — A 33-year-old man was arrested following a four-hour standoff at an apartment on Railroad Avenue Wednesday morning.
Essex Police responded to a reported assault at 8 Railroad Avenue at 6:55 a.m. on March 19.
Officers assisted two victims, additional occupants, and their pets to safety upon arrival.
The suspect, identified as Mack Meredith of Essex Junction, barricaded himself inside the residence until surrendering peacefully nearly four hours later.
An Essex Police negotiator established contact with Meredith while additional resources were called to the scene.
Essex PD K9 Nova and Vermont State Police provided technical assistance, including the use of an unmanned aerial vehicle for an interior search of the residence.
Meredith was taken to UVM Medical Center at his request to be evaluated for injuries he claimed to have sustained during the initial reported assault.
After being released from the medical center, Meredith was transported to the Essex Police Department for processing.
He faces charges of burglary, second-degree aggravated domestic assault, aggravated assault, and violation of conditions of release.
Judge Pacht ordered Meredith held without bail, with a court appearance scheduled for March 20.
