Man arrested after knife threat against elderly father in Harriman

HARRIMAN — A 34-year-old Harriman man was arrested after allegedly threatening his elderly father with a knife during a domestic incident Tuesday morning.

Daniel Kochovos was charged with endangering the welfare of an incompetent or physically disabled person in the first degree, a Class E felony, and obstructing governmental administration in the second degree, a Class A misdemeanor.

Police responded to 25 Snoop Street at approximately 9:46 a.m. after receiving a 911 call reporting an altercation involving a subject armed with a knife and another with a shotgun or rifle.

Multiple law enforcement agencies arrived at the scene along with local emergency medical services.

Investigation revealed that Kochovos had threatened to stab his 70-year-old father with a knife, according to Harriman Police Chief Patrick Tenaglia.

Officers secured the residence to ensure the victim’s safety.

Police determined that during the incident, the father had grabbed a shotgun in response to his son’s threats.

No injuries were reported to either the suspect or victim.

Kochovos was transported to Garnet Medical Center for evaluation following his arrest.

Police secured rifles from the scene for safekeeping.

The defendant was issued an appearance ticket returnable to Village of Harriman Court on April 17.
