WORCESTER — A woman was arrested after allegedly stealing a car and crashing into a police vehicle during an attempted escape on March 17.
Worcester Police officers responded to a report of a stolen motor vehicle at approximately 4:25 p.m., according to police.
The vehicle owner told officers she had left her car running while picking up her child, only to return and see someone driving away with it down Sterling Street.
Police identified the suspect as Omaira Torres, 43, of Worcester.
At around 5:41 p.m., officers spotted the stolen vehicle on Millbury Street with Torres behind the wheel.
When Torres noticed police, she reversed the vehicle and crashed into a police car before fleeing down Millbury Street and then driving against traffic on Harding Street, authorities said.
The pursuit ended when Torres stopped at the intersection of Harding Street and Quinsigamond Avenue.
Officers discovered Torres was driving with a suspended license.
The stolen vehicle was towed from the scene following her arrest.
Torres faces multiple charges including larceny of a motor vehicle, assault with a dangerous weapon, failure to stop for police, use of a motor vehicle without authority, operating to endanger, operating with a suspended license, disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace and a one-way violation.
