ISLE LA MOTTE — A Saint Albans woman and her companion were arrested after fleeing from police in a stolen vehicle on Church Road, authorities said.

Mackenna Shea-Smith, 25, of Saint Albans, and Tylor Lindsay, 27, of Isle La Motte, were taken into custody on March 17 in Highgate following the incident that began the previous day.

According to Vermont State Police, officers were called to assist Saint Albans City Police and Swanton Police at approximately 11 a.m. on March 16 when Shea-Smith fled from Swanton officers who were attempting to arrest her on unrelated charges.

The vehicle Shea-Smith was driving was later located in Isle La Motte.

During the encounter with law enforcement, Shea-Smith locked the doors of the vehicle and sped away while troopers were attempting to force the door open, police said.

Shea-Smith faces charges of attempting to elude, careless and negligent operation, and reckless endangerment.

Lindsay has been charged with accessory after the fact and impeding a public official.

Both suspects were issued citations by Vermont State Police and Swanton Police Department.

Shea-Smith was lodged at Chittenden County Correctional Facility on separate charges from Saint Albans City Police.

The vehicle, which authorities determined was stolen, was recovered at the scene.
