DRACUT — A 38-year-old Dracut man was arrested and charged after allegedly stabbing a female family member more than 10 times on Saturday evening, police said.
Sebastian Degout faces charges of aggravated assault and battery with a dangerous weapon on a family or household member and mayhem.
Dracut Police responded to a report of a domestic incident on 18th Street at approximately 5:07 p.m. on Saturday, March 15.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a woman who had been stabbed multiple times by a family member identified as Degout, who had fled the scene.
Police located Degout about a half-mile away near Humphrey and Methuen streets in Lowell and took him into custody without incident.
Officers recovered a knife believed to have been used in the attack.
The victim received medical aid from the Dracut Fire Department and Pridestar/Trinity EMS before being transported to Lowell General Hospital.
She was later flown by medical helicopter to a regional trauma facility, where she remains in critical condition.
Degout was held without bail and arraigned Tuesday in Lowell District Court.
At the arraignment, a judge ordered Degout held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing scheduled for Thursday, March 20.
The Middlesex District Attorney’s Office and Massachusetts State Police Crime Scene Services Section are assisting the Dracut Police Department in the ongoing investigation.
