Worcester man arrested after fleeing police with loaded handgun

WORCESTER — Worcester Police officers arrested a 22-year-old man who allegedly fled from them while carrying a loaded handgun near Elm Park on March 16.

Officers assigned to the Crime Gun Intelligence Unit were patrolling the Park and Pleasant Street area when they received a call about a large fight at approximately 3 p.m.

The officers were informed that a firearm might be involved in the altercation.

Upon responding to the scene, officers approached Derick Barjolo of Hudson Street, who immediately began sprinting toward Russell Street.

Police noticed Barjolo was running with one arm in his jacket pocket, raising concerns that he might be armed.

Officers caught up with Barjolo on Townsend Street and detained him.

A loaded handgun was discovered in Barjolo’s jacket pocket, and officers determined he did not possess a license to carry firearms.

Barjolo faces multiple charges including carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without an FID card, disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace, and resisting arrest.
