Lowell, MA police arrest man with loaded gun after shots fired downtown

LOWELL, MA — Gang unit officers arrested a 40-year-old man carrying a loaded handgun after reports of shots fired in downtown Lowell Sunday night.

At approximately 10:05 p.m., police dispatch received multiple calls reporting shots fired in the area of Jackson Street.

Gang unit officers, who were already patrolling the downtown area, immediately began searching for the suspect.

Officers quickly located a man matching the suspect’s description near the location where shots were reported.

Police found a loaded .40 caliber handgun in the man’s waistband during the encounter.

The suspect was arrested and charged with carrying a loaded firearm and carrying a firearm without a license.
