WILLISTON — A Fairfield man was cited for driving under the influence of drugs after a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 89 Friday morning, state police said.
Nathaniel Mims, 21, was traveling northbound on I-89 near mile marker 84.4 when he accelerated and struck the rear of a crane truck driven by Jacob Davis, 27, of Concord, according to police.
The crash occurred at approximately 9:42 a.m. under clear skies and dry road conditions.
Mims’ 2012 Nissan Versa was totaled in the collision, while Davis’ 2000 Linkbelt crane truck sustained no damage.
Troopers detected signs of impairment from a substance other than alcohol while speaking with Mims, police said.
Mims was transported to UVM Medical Center for suspected minor injuries and underwent a Drug Recognition Expert evaluation.
Blood evidence obtained from Mims indicated the presence of an impairing substance other than alcohol in his system, according to authorities.
Mims was issued a citation to appear at the Chittenden County Superior Court on April 17 at 8:30 a.m. to answer to the charge of DUI – Drug.
