HORNELL — A Hornell man was arrested Tuesday night after allegedly forcing his way into a motel room and assaulting another person during a dispute over noise.

New York State Police responded to a reported physical disturbance at the Econo Lodge at 7462 Seneca Road North around 9:56 p.m.

Troopers found multiple individuals outside the building when they arrived.

Zachary D. Smith, 25, of Hornell, allegedly forcibly entered Room 137 and physically assaulted the occupant following a disagreement about noise levels.

The investigation determined Smith damaged the door frame and threshold during the incident.

The victim sustained multiple injuries and was evaluated at the scene by Hornell City Ambulance before being transported to St. James Memorial Hospital for further treatment.

Smith was arrested and charged with second-degree burglary, a class C felony, along with third-degree assault and fourth-degree criminal mischief, both class A misdemeanors.

He was processed at the North Hornell State Police barracks and remanded to the Steuben County Jail due to prior felony convictions.
