HORNELL — A 25-year-old Hornell man was arrested Tuesday after allegedly forcing his way into a motel room and assaulting another person following a dispute over noise.

New York State Police responded to a reported physical disturbance at the Econo Lodge at 7462 Seneca Road North around 9:56 p.m. March 11.

Troopers found multiple individuals outside the building upon arrival.

Zachary D. Smith was identified as the suspect who allegedly forcibly entered Room 137 and physically assaulted the victim after a disagreement about noise levels.

The investigation determined Smith damaged the door frame and threshold during the incident.

The victim sustained multiple injuries and was evaluated at the scene by Hornell City Ambulance before being transported to St. James Memorial Hospital for further evaluation.

Smith was arrested and processed at the State Police North Hornell station before being remanded to the Steuben County Jail due to prior felony convictions.

He faces charges of second-degree burglary, a class C felony, along with third-degree assault and fourth-degree criminal mischief, both class A misdemeanors.
