ELMIRA — Police arrested a 23-year-old Elmira man on weapons charges after gunshots were detected in the early morning hours Saturday.
Jaheim Brown faces felony charges of criminal possession of a weapon following the incident on Balsam Street near Broadway Street.
Elmira police officers were dispatched to the location at 1:35 a.m. March 15 after the Chemung County E-911 Communications Center received notification of gunshots through the Flock Raven acoustic gunshot detection system.
While responding, officers learned a vehicle was fleeing the area at high speed.
An officer located the vehicle near Broadway Street and South Avenue, where three people were taken into custody.
Investigators recovered a defaced 9mm semi-automatic handgun and spent shell casings at the scene.
Brown was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon (loaded firearm), a class C felony, and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon (defaced firearm), a class D felony.
He remains in police custody pending arraignment in Elmira City Court.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
