EAST MILLINOCKET — A two-vehicle crash on Main Street near Dolby Landfill Road left one woman dead and three others injured Friday afternoon.
East Millinocket Police and Fire Departments responded to the scene shortly after 12:30 p.m. March 14, where they found a rollover accident with extensive damage.
Initial investigation indicates a Chevy sedan traveling east crossed the center line into the path of a westbound Chevy 3500 service truck.
The truck driver attempted to avoid a head-on collision by moving into the opposite lane, but the sedan corrected and struck the truck, causing it to roll over.
The sedan, driven by a 66-year-old Medway woman with two children ages 8 and 6 as passengers, sustained extensive front-end damage.
All three occupants of the sedan were transported to Millinocket Regional Hospital.
The driver was later airlifted by LifeFlight of Maine helicopter to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center, where she later died from her injuries.
One child was transported by LifeFlight ground ambulance to Northern Light EMMC with serious injuries but is reported in stable condition.
The second child was evaluated at Millinocket Regional Hospital and released.
The 35-year-old Millinocket man driving the Chevy 3500 refused medical transport.
The crash forced the closure of Main Street (Route 157) for several hours while authorities investigated.
East Millinocket Police were assisted by the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office, Maine Warden Service, and Maine State Police, who helped reconstruct the accident.
The investigation remains ongoing.
