STURBRIDGE — Massachusetts authorities will conduct a new search next week for a man who disappeared in 2016 after allegedly assaulting his girlfriend and stabbing his teenage son.
Brent Young, who was 42 at the time, fled into woods behind a residence at 35 Vinton Road on September 16, 2016, after the domestic dispute, according to Sturbridge Police Chief Dessert.
Police believe Young suffered a self-inflicted knife wound to the neck before disappearing.
Despite a three-day search in 2016 using canines, aircraft, mounted units, drones and search teams, Young was never found.
Authorities say there has been no activity on Young’s name through banking institutions or social media, and no known contact with family or friends since his disappearance.
The new search, scheduled for March 21 between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., will utilize advanced mapping software to analyze the area and determine likely locations Young may have traveled based on his injuries, terrain and environmental conditions at the time.
Multiple agencies will participate in the grid search, including the Sturbridge Police Department, Massachusetts State Police Special Emergency Response Team, Mass Search and Rescue K9 teams, CEMLEC Drone Units, and the Sturbridge Community Emergency Response Team.
Residents can expect to see emergency response teams and vehicles near Old Sturbridge Village Access Road, Vinton Road, Leadmine Road, and Haynes Street during the search.
Police are asking anyone with information about Young’s whereabouts to contact Detective Ronald Obuchowski at 508-347-2525, extension 315.
