JERUSALEM — A barn was completely destroyed by fire Thursday afternoon in the town of Jerusalem, according to the Yates County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to 3574 Prosser Road at 12:24 p.m. after a delivery worker discovered the structure fully engulfed in flames.

No one was on the property at the time of the fire, authorities said.

Investigators determined the blaze was likely caused by a wood stove or electrical issue.

Multiple fire departments responded to the scene, including Branchport, Himrod, Benton, Potter, Penn Yan, and Pulteney.

Yates County Ambulance and the Office of Emergency Management also assisted at the scene.

The barn, owned by 39-year-old Wayne Hoover of Prosser Road, was declared a total loss.
