2 arrested in Greenwich after fleeing police in Nissan

1 min read

GREENWICH — Two individuals were arrested by the City of Rye Police on March 11 following an investigation conducted by Greenwich Police Detectives.

The suspects were identified as Muhammad Abdul Malik, 19, and Yadiel Baez, 20.

Officers and detectives became aware that a Nissan, known to be operated by Malik, was traveling in the Belle Haven neighborhood.

The Nissan was seen slowing down and stopping at driveways, which matches behaviors of car thieves that have been operating in Greenwich and surrounding areas.

When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver failed to pull over and fled onto the Field Point Road I-95 southbound on-ramp.

In response, officers successfully deployed tire deflation devices on the ramp, causing several tires to deflate.

Despite this, the vehicle continued southbound at a high rate of speed.

As per State of Connecticut Pursuit Policy, the vehicle was not pursued.

The vehicle was later located abandoned in the City of Rye, New York, with three flat tires.

City of Rye Officers detained Baez and Malik, who were both observed fleeing the scene.

Baez and Malik were later arrested by City of Rye Police and taken into custody.

Both suspects were charged with Obstructing Governmental Administration.

This investigation is ongoing by the Greenwich Police Department.

Authorities continue to explore their connection to additional vehicle thefts and related crimes in the region.
