CATO — A Syracuse man was arrested twice within hours after deputies discovered he was operating a vehicle with stolen license plates and without a valid license.
Abdul H. Alhariri of Syracuse was first stopped at approximately 4:02 a.m. on March 7 while driving a blue Dodge Charger, according to Cayuga County Sheriff Brian Schenck.
During the initial traffic stop, deputies discovered the vehicle had switched plates and Alhariri did not possess a valid New York State driver’s license.
Deputies issued Alhariri tickets for operating an unregistered motor vehicle and aggravated unlicensed operation, removed the license plate, and had the vehicle towed to a private residence in Wayne County at the owner’s request.
Just over two hours later, at 6:17 a.m., deputies observed Alhariri operating the same Dodge Charger on E. Main Street in Cato with a New York commercial license plate attached to the rear of the vehicle.
After stopping the vehicle a second time, deputies determined the license plate had been stolen in Wayne County.
Alhariri was issued an appearance ticket for criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree, along with additional traffic tickets for operating an unregistered vehicle and aggravated unlicensed operation.
The vehicle was towed to an impound yard following the second stop.
Alhariri is scheduled to appear in Cato Town Court on March 17 at 6 p.m. for arraignment.
